Can Divine Signs Tell You Where to Live?

This particular topic is one that’s been feeling very relevant to me and some of my dear friends in the last few years. It’s one thing to see signs you’re about to get axed from a job but it’s another to see signs you’re possibly meant to live in another place entirely. I say that if multiple aspects of your life are being impacted, such as your career, social life, family, etc., there’s an excellent chance the divine signs just may be telling you “pack your bags and get ready to begin a new chapter in a new destination“. If the signs only apply to one aspect of your life such as your career or school, likely you should just get a new job or send yourself or your family to a new school. When things trickle down to multiple aspects of your life, this is probably the higher powers telling you to find a new place to call home.

The Stars: A Compass to Finding Our Way Home?

Disclaimer: I am not an astrologer nor am I an astrocartographer. If you aren’t comfortable with determining for yourself if a place is right for you and don’t feel comfortable studying either field yourself, do consider consulting an astrocartographer. Understand that when you read your astrocartography chart, make sure you understand your natal chart as well! This website is for educational purposes only and is not intended to substitute any services you feel you may need; consider this advice a supplement to any consultations you may receive.

In ancient times, stars in the night sky and even the sun’s shadows were used to help ancient civilizations all around the world get around before Global Positioning Systems aka “GPS” was ever in existence, such as using the North Star (currently Polaris) to tell one which way is north.1 Did you know also that astrology could contain some answers as to where the best places the live for you could be? An astrologer named Jim Lewis along with others contributed to a field known today as astrocartography, aka relocation astrology. The idea of connecting the zodiac (belt shaped region of the sky the sun travels directly on throughout the day) with the locations here on Earth dates back to the 1st Century CE.2

If you’re comfortable checking out astrocartography for yourself, you can get a free astrocartography map from websites like astro-seek.com, astro.com, and others. Before you attempt to learn astrocartography, PLEASE learn at least the basics and some intermediate astrology concepts first. It’s vital to know enough about astrology in order to understand astrocartography. Regardless of whether you seek an astrocartographer or try to figure this out for yourself, know your chart and your lines! Seek a second opinion if what you’re hearing doesn’t feel right or doesn’t make sense. Use your discernment and factor in everything before making any and all important life decisions.

In astrology, the ascendant or the rising sign is what was rising from the eastern horizon the moment you were born.

Astro cartography: The Celestial Compass to Our Forever Home?

  11. South NodeTail of the Dragon” (Ketu in Vedic): signifies where one comes from, innate talent, ingrained habits, and potential area of stagnation to be let go of or processed
  12. North NodeHead of the Dragon” (Rahu in Vedic): represents where one is meant to go towards this lifetime, personal expansion, possibilities, and destiny fulfillment
  13. ChironWounded Warrior“: represents area of greatest wounds and suffering as well as our greatest insecurities or feelings of inadequacy. This often goes back to childhood (or possibly past lives). Overall, Chiron signifies the area we have the greatest capacity to aide in the healing of others from personal experiences
  14. Black Moon LilithShadow Self“: the so called dark moon or the furthest unseen orbit point of the moon’s path around the Earth. Lilith represents the repressed primal energies, wild side of our nature and raw sexuality and where we refuse to compromise. The purpose of Lilith in astrology is to reclaim personal power and embrace our independence.

In astrocartography, there are a couple different methods one can use to generate their astrocartography map. One involves in Zodio, which shows more or less where something actually is Zodical/In Longitude “Zodio”, which lines up more closely with what shows up in conjunction with relocation charts. Zodio assumes all planets are on the ecliptic plane. Zodio Astro cartography maps line up more closely with relocation charts for this reason and is often used by beginners for this reason. The two lines that tend to differ the most between Zodio and Mundo maps are the moon and Pluto lines because of their higher orbital inclinations or “strange orbits”. Mundo on the other hand goes more based on astronomical visibility. This is the original method used by the astrologer Jim Lewis. Because of this, some Astro cartographers like Helena Woods3 prefer Mundo instead of Zodio. Others will look at both kinds of maps to get a bigger picture. With astro-seek.com, you can pick either method to generate your map. Astro.com on the other hand straight up creates Mundo only maps. One very nice feature about Astro.com is that you can “zoom” into different continents for where your lines are. The website also gives a description of each line and advises on whether to live east or west of certain ones. It will even tell you how far a selected location is from nearby certain lines. It also seems to give descriptions of said secondary lines or parans, which are not really visible on that map.

As an overview, the main factors one should take into consideration before considering relocating are things like a planet’s state of dignity, the planet’s aspects and house placement, and distance from the line(s) in question. Planets that are said to be domicile or exalted within a sign are said to be more easily felt or expressed in someone’s life. On the other hand, planets in detriment or fall are less comfortable, more unpleasant and overall more challenging. Look out for hard aspects for certain lines, especially squares to Mars, Saturn and Pluto in the natal chart. Planets in houses like the 5th, 9th and 11th could be more fun. Planets within the 1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th houses can be highly beneficial. Planets in the 6th, 8th, and 12th houses are said to be less comfortable and more challenging. On the other hand, sextiles and trines are often positive aspects to take into consideration.3 Think of it as seeing “what would my natal chart have looked like if I was born there instead of here?

Personal Case Study

Below, I inserted images of my Astro-seek.com generated Mundo top) and Zodio (middle) maps using both methods for your visual reference. Most of the lines are relatively the same or close to it shape wise (slight differences) using either method. The lines with the most drastic changes between the two methods happen to be the Pluto lines. Even if most lines are shifted ever so slightly, the lines ought to be only part of the equation in choosing where one lives. In the big scheme of things, does it really matter if lines are shifted 50 miles (80.4 kilometers) east or west of a city if you’re still within the impact area? Does it also really matter if lines are shifted more east or west when in the middle of Antarctica or in the middle of the ocean?

In my case I’ve lived closed to a lot of heavier lines like my Saturn MC line, then my 6th house stellium lines. At first glance one would think I live near some “great lines”. In my natal chart, my Venus is a little over 2 degrees away from the sun (considered combust) and about 3 degrees away from my mercury. In my natal chart, my sun and mercury are 1 degree apart at 0 and 1 degrees Scorpio in western astrology, a so called mercury cazimi. However, my 6th house stellium is square my Chiron and Node. Throughout my entire childhood and even adulthood I’ve had issues with pain and trauma going back to my relationships by way of things like being assaulted, being cheated on, etc. I’ve also struggled with things like balancing my needs with my partner’s needs and lowering my self worth in the past. On top of that, my Pluto is not only in Scorpio but it’s also in the 7th house!

I’ve also lived within a few hundred miles from my Neptune and Saturn MC lines my entire life. Having lived near my Capricorn Saturn MC line in my natal 10th house did enable me to start establishing my career, graduating with my bachelor’s degree and buying my first house months all before graduating college at the age of 30. All these great things came about a year and a half after a gruesome custody ordeal spanning over a 3 month period. I also left my longer term lab specimen processor job for a medical receptionist position I lost 5 weeks after the fact. I got a temporary retail job a few weeks later and then eventually transitioned to the job I have now. Pluto was also finishing its transit over my natal Saturn when the really rough stuff was starting to take place. The South Node was also transiting my natal 10th house (career and public reputation house) at the time the rough year began. Fun times… *sarcasm*.

As the astrologer Jim Lewis said, “west is best“. This is because this means putting a planet more in the angular 10th house instead of the cadent 9th house. According to Astro.com’s interactive “AstroClick Travel” map, it’s said to be more beneficial to live west of certain MC lines, such as Uranus and even Neptune. I would even add in living west of the Saturn MC line. It’s apparently better to move east of other MC lines, like the moon MC line. This likely is because when you live more west of a Moon, it’s said to be in a more public house (10th house) in comparison to living east of the line (9th house). The rational goes that this can result in the more irrational, over sensitive aspects of one’s natal moon coming to surface and on full display. Overall, it depends on what you want and need to do to fulfill your mission here.

Throughout my childhood, I’ve randomly had dreams throughout my entire life about moving to places like Texas or hearing Texas being mentioned randomly. All of this was before I even knew astrology existed, let alone astro cartography. It turns out that both my Uranus and my Moon MC lines are in Texas (are conjunct in my natal chart). Growing up, I also have had many dreams about outer space and even visiting other planets. It turns out that my natal moon (8th house but in Placidus it’s 17 arc min away from the 9th house cusp) is conjunct the galactic center. There are also quite a few space ports in the state of Texas as a whole 2nd in quantity to Florida, according to the U.S. Federal Aviation Agency [FAA]5). Interesting connection to say the least…

At first glance with my own astro cartography map and with basic astrology knowledge, one would think “OH YOU SHOULD MOVE ON THE WEST COAST NEAR SEATTLE!” because my Jupiter DC line runs right through it and west of the California coast. I’ve always had some positive feelings about wanting to visit places like Oregon, California, etc., and even had a hunch in high school that my said soul mate or true love at least at that time lived in California and someone else, a close friend who will be important in my life. It turns out in my case I confirmed my best friend certainly lived out there at the time I had these hunches! However, I love my sunshine, warm weather and I certainly do not miss the southern Michigan winters as it is. My 4th house Jupiter is square my 7th house Pluto (and loosely square my ascendant), which can potentially exaggerate the “boom and bust” cycles that can accompany this aspect in the natal chart, as well as potentially face obstacles in career (ascendant square Jupiter). Helena Woods did say on her blog to be on the lookout for squares to Mars and Pluto in the natal chart when considering different lines to live on. In my case, with also my NN in the 10th house in Aquarius, it seems there’s a reason why I’ve had dreams of moving to Texas and plenty of space-related dreams throughout my entire life. It’s plausible that my dreams have been pointing to Texas somewhere in a city that’s between my Moon MC and Uranus MC lines. In my chart, I lack oppositions or squares to my moon, Uranus, Neptune or even Saturn placements.

Bottom line here is folks, you need to look at EVERY factor before making any life changing decisions. If you have a legal agreement in place that essentially keeps you within a certain vicinity (ex. custody or visitation consent agreement), DON’T make sudden moves. This could and very likely violate this kind of agreement and result in serious penalties and losing custody of any and all children. Go through the proper legal channels to modify any signed and previously filed “on the record” court orders. However, these agreements can’t stop you from going on vacation to an area that sits on your desired lines. Get a taste (or several) of the area(s), get to know some people who are locals in said area(s), see if you actually like it there. You may be getting signs to go to a certain place but I do implore you please make sure you do things properly on all levels. Get your ducks lined up for the future, even if it has to be a slow burn towards living in your dream place.
